What is Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federally funded program created to lower the cost of dental treatment for Canadian residents who do not have private dental insurance and whose household income is under $90,000.

Under this plan, eligible individuals may receive coverage for a variety of dental services, such as:

- Oral exams and diagnostic X-rays
- Professional cleanings
- Dental restorations (fillings)
- Root canal treatment
- Tooth extractions
- Crowns (subject to prior approval)

Who is eligible for the Canadian Dental Care Plan?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a public dental initiative aimed at reducing out-of-pocket dental expenses for Canadians who do not have dental insurance and whose household income is below $90,000.

The plan covers a variety of essential dental treatments, including:

- Dental checkups and diagnostic imaging

- Routine cleanings and preventive care

- Tooth-coloured and standard fillings

- Root canal procedures

- Dental crowns (approval required before treatment)

Please note that the CDCP does not include coverage for every dental procedure. Patient co-payments may apply and vary based on the level of coverage.

Approval time:

It takes around three months for the approval process. Patients who qualify for the CDCP will receive a welcome package from Sun Life, which includes a member card and the start date for when their dental services will be covered.
